The Dragon Age universe is filled with great materials for epic stories, and Dragon Age 2 could have struck gold if it focused more on the Qunari and delivered plenty of other information about the race. You do get to interact with some unique Qunari characters over the course of the story, but they're just present to deliver a few more details about the race and are subsequently eliminated through various ways.
This wouldn't have been so bad had the developer added a new Qunari companion, like Sten, who joined your travels in Dragon Age: Origins. This is extremely little, considering that some of the main conflicts highlight the differences between the Qunari as a race and the humans, elves or dwarves. Sadly, this overhaul wasn't accompanied by more information about the mysterious race, with Bioware, its developer, limiting itself to just writing a few codex entries about their civilization, nature and history. While in the first game, the Qunari were pretty much just bigger humans, with white hair and darker skin, in Dragon Age 2, they're now lumbering beasts that look scarier than even the Darkspawn demons. In Dragon Age 2, the Qunari have received a pretty serious visual overhaul as opposed to the original game, becoming much more demon-like in appearance. The most important ones center around a group of Qunari, one of Dragon Age's distinct races, alongside humans, elves or dwarves, which is stranded in Kirkwall after their ship crashed near the city. Unfortunately, it does have a few flaws, with one in particular bugging me ever since I finished the game.Īs you all know, in Dragon Age 2, you play as Hawke, the Champion of Kirkwall, who managed to save the city state from a series of tense events through many quests in and around its perimeter. Dragon Age 2 does quite a few things right, including playing as a mage, giving a voice to the main character or adding a new dialog wheel.
